![]() ![]() Nevertheless, lower time-frame such as 10 years or 20 years can also be taken in cases where the time span of the greenhouse gas, such as methane, is short in the atmosphere. Generally, 100 years is used as the time frame over which Global Warming Potential is calculated. Global Warming Potential is basically the relative heat trapping ability of other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere as compared to CO2 over a certain time period. The important point to explore is that different greenhouse gases have different levels of Global Warming Potential (GWP). However, there are many other types of greenhouse gases such as Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), Nitrogen triflouride (NF3). Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the most commonly emitted greenhouse gases. GHG emissions are greenhouse gas emissions. Towards Scale-up & Deployment of Direct Air Capture (DAC) #technology #energy #development #opportunities #research #learning #dac #directaircapture #ccs #ccus #netzero #carboncapture With increase in number of DAC deployment, it is expected to lower the cost. At present, the cost of DAC is in the range of $250 - $600 per tonne of CO2 captured based on choice of technology, energy source, and the scale of their deployment. There are opportunities to enhance performance and cut costs through learning from early deployment of the technology. It signifies that the DAC technology is still in the large-scale and prototype phase and not yet ready for full commercial deployment. Currently, DAC is at level 6 in technology readiness level (on scale 1-9). This process is cyclic in nature and many more cycle of experience is necessary to get a matured DAC technology. ![]() However, the technology is still not matured and needs improvements by using data from field experience. These stages are most significant in building confidence in public by show-casing the transition from concept to reality. DAC technology already went through initial lab-scale Research and Development (R&D) stage, pilot plant and/or prototype stage for scale-up and demonstration. ![]()
